So my wife and I are visiting her family in Vegas for Christmas this year. After receiving y'all's last email, I splurged to buy us tickets to Awakening for my wife's birthday (Dec. 22, we always do something special so it doesn't feel vacuumed up by Christmas). Super jazzed to go ... and then we told my mother-in-law. And now she, my brother- and sister-in-law, their five kids, and my sister-in-law's family (6 more people!) are all going! So, y'know ... just casually taking 16 people to the show. Tell Fraction his plug in the previous email sold some tickets! (And excited to see the payoff of your hard work!)
Am still looking for a new “home” to replace twitter. I am liking Mastodon but more for my photography so far. Amazing how only a few weeks into using it I’ve picked up almost 15% of the number of followers I have on Twitter (after years) with more interactions per foot
Downside trying to find the people I’m connected with and wish to/ need to keep a connection with (luckily I have you in a few places currently)
For me, I left Twitter after it was announced Elon was buying it. Since my twitter basically evolved into an app i only followed my closer friends on, I started using Close Friends on instagram as my new twitter. Now my friends get my random thoughts as text posts there haha.
I dig substack when it comes to following comics people, the app has made it less noisy if you turn off emails. I totally wouldn’t mind if people just started using it the way they use Twitter. I would love it if Dril dropped his tweets in my inbox a few times a day, I would pay for that in fact 😂
I actually quit Twitter back at the beginning of the pandemic because it was tanking my mental health, but I've been missing the community aspect of it ever since. There are folks I only ever really talked to in Twitter and now I have no idea what's even going on with them. My hope for the Twitter successor is to get that community aspect back, but without the Bad News Machine aspect. Fingers crossed, I guess. Until then, it's Instagram, Slack, and Discord for me, I guess. (I ALSO feel too old for Discord, but it's where the friends are now.)
The social media thing is an ongoing issue, and probably will continue to be as we (I included) jump from one centralized thing to the next. I wrote a bit about this and some of the decentralized options that are being built too, which maybe interesting and or helpful?

Waitlisted for Post so can’t say.
I found this to be a super interesting and informative read about where to go post-Twitter: https://www.jwz.org/blog/2022/11/psa-do-not-use-services-that-hate-the-internet/

Could Pretty Deadly V5 be a XXX story about hope? That would be an interesting story to tell.
I'm so old I think bulletin boards are cool. But I also know they're a pain in the arse since you have to deal with it yourself.

I am simply curious how "daughtering" differs from "parenting."
And thanks for the link, will give it a read.
