My Fellow BB Sharks!
Yr Shark Mom’s got deadlines, so Yr stuck with Yr Majordomo this week (sorry, not sorry).
Con Season
Kelly Sue was at DragonCon this past weekend, with Good Trouble Productions who debuted two new titles: Register! and Recognized. You can order copies online, or find a shop near you!
There was so much great programming & cosplay! Here’s just a tiny sample.

FML
With only a few weeks left before the dreaded Final Order Cutoff there’s gonna be a lot more Shark Mom interviews coming your way. This week, it’s the Off-Panel podcast with David Harper - it’s a delightful conversation, and you should give it a listen.
The best way to make sure you’re keeping up with those interviews, and all things FML, is by joining the Community, by texting FML to 503-738-1029.
Listen
Since you’ve already got you pod-catchers open, here’s a couple that we like, and that you might also enjoy:
My favorite podcast, Ologies with Alie Ward is probably the best science podcast ever made. The host — someone I like to describe as “Delightfully Crass” — is full of curiosity for the world, and she will make you care about topics you thought you could Never Effing Care about; I cannot recommend it enough! (And if you know how long I’ve been listening to and recording my own podcasts you know that’s no small compliment).
This week’s episode, is about probably the best science ever - Coffee, which we also Love.
Perfume Room, is one that Yr Shark Mom is loving right now, this is an episode that she shared with me, because there’s talk about a Mushroom scented candle. Be still, my gloomy heart.
Bringing it Back to Books
Obviously, I have a bias towards podcasts. But I love books too (I think it’s probably an unspoken job requirement) - and there are so many great book related things in Portland. Here’s a few to bring to your attention:
Did you know Portland has a mobile library, for people who are living outside? They’re called Street Books, and you can sponsor a book - which helps support their pedal-powered cause, because everyone deserves books!
Or maybe you’re into zines? Have you checked out the Portland Zine Symposium, happening September 21 & 22, at PSU. You can meet some zinesters, find a new favorite zine (like one of Kelly Sue’s favorites - Saint Catherine is Dead) check out some panels, and attend a free workshop so you can learn to make your own zines! (Just make sure you avoid tangents, using this helpful mini lesson by Chris Schweizer.)
What About TV & Film?
For all my fellow Marvel fans out there - the much anticipated WandaVision spinoff: Agatha All Along is finally within reach of our witchy little claws, the first episode drops on Sept. 18th.
Between now and then, you could watch any or all of these movies that the delightful Ayo Edebiri pulled, during her visit to the Criterion Closet. What a lucky girl!
Horse Things
Big Thanks to everyone who made a contribution to Faelin’s healthcare fundraiser. She’s home again, and on the mend. And, it’s not to late to contribute you you still want to, just sayin’.
Why Don’t You…
Diana Vreeland helmed BAZAAR for 25 years, during which she very famously had a column called Why Don't You...
We miss the big weirdo fabulist that Diana was, so we are picking up the torch.
Turn your windows into stained glass?
Learn about bats, fall in love with them, and then give them a house?
Plant some seeds in a little cup?
Drink a pumpkin-spiced something? (It’s not basic, it’s delicious!)
Create a medicinal youtube playlist for when you need confidence?
Tell five people about a local band they don't know about?
Rent a movie from an actual video store?
Reminder that if you do one of these, tell us about it & we’ll put you in the next “Oh Shit, you Did!”
Y’all still with me? Yaaay! As a thank you for reading all the way to the bottom, your prize is a secret heads up. A sticker of David Harper’s favorite FML character (and Mine) - Glory B. Holgate - is going out tomorrow at noon, via the FML community list*
(*Only available in US & Canada)
XOXO,
Majordomo
Totally understand. I doubt I’ll ever attend another con without masking up. Still, it will be great to see you both in whatever capacity I can!
Hey Mama Shark,
Packing for Rose City, and just confirming that you will only be signing on Saturday at the Dark Horse booth and Chip’s best friend will not be signing this time? Looking forward to y’all’s panels and see you real soon!
