Glow Sharks! It is I, Yr Shark Auntie, Denise!
Yr Shark Mom has been crazy busy lately, but she says Hi, and that she misses you. In the meantime, I’m here with another Majordomo Missive, to give you some updates from Milkfed HQ & friends.
Let’s get into it! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
First, A Milkfed Treat

Podcast Alert!

They cover all of Kelly Sue’s greatest hits, and of course, the latest: FML. It’s a great conversation, we hope you give it a listen.
It’s a Kickstarter-Palooza
Is there a kickstarter season? If so, I think we’re in it now, because check out all these campaigns!
Islands in the Sky
LIVE NOW through Wednesday, July 16th
“When Hurricane Helene devastated Southern Appalachia in the fall of 2024, it left both our landscape and our communities forever changed. But in the aftermath, something remarkable emerged: stories of survival, solidarity, and strength. Islands in the Sky brings those stories to life—pairing real survivors with award-winning comics creators like Brian Michael Bendis, Gene Luen Yang, Matt Fraction, Nate Powell, June Kim, Greg Pak, Steve Orlando, Alex Segura, Thien Pham, Briana Loewinsohn, Valentine De Landro, Aster D’Amico, Josh Adams, Anthony Del Col, and more—to preserve what happened and help the region recover. When you pledge, you’re doing more than funding a book. You’re helping us pay survivors to tell their own stories, getting this history into schools and libraries, and providing income and visibility for a region still rebuilding. This project is part record, part resistance, and part recovery. Join us”.
Stories of survival from those impacted the most by Hurricane Helene in the heart of Appalachia. Funding for this book DIRECTLY benefits those survivors, helping the community rebuild. Share and support if you are able! http://kck.st/3HHimV5
As an added incentive, take a peek at this Pro reward tier, featuring Milkfed’s own Matt Fraction!
Aces and Aros: An Asexual and Aromantic Comic Book Anthology
By Kat Calamia.
”A 100-page graphic novel anthology about Asexual and Aromantic experiences across a wide range of genres”.
This campaign has been fully funded, but is still accepting late pledges, so go get you some rewards!
And an honorable mention:
BINARY: A scifi monster fight comic
By Mark Haven Britt.
”Imagine if Thundercats and Dune had a little baby. Imagine Godzilla and your therapist made a comic. That's BINARY”.
This one has funded, and pledging has closed, but we still wanted to share it with y’all so you know to keep an eye out for it, when it hits the shelves of a LCBS near you!
PCC’s ART217
A few students from the PCC SE Comics Art & Literature class group showcased their work at this year’s Comics Confluence Festival! If you missed it, don’t stress, you can click here for a generous helping of the student’s coursework (aka COMICS!)
*ART 217 is the Spring 2025 cohort from the Comics Art & Literature course at PCC SE in Portland, Oregon
Senior Cords
Cooler than a yearbook, and older than internet trends, Senior cords started out as a stylish way college kids expressed their interests; taking corduroy garments and covering them with personal symbols, school/club insignia, and other designs. Now, they’re back, but via the world of high-end fashion, and award show red carpets.
YR Shark Mom is kind of obsessed. She recently taught some high school students how to recreate the trend, the old fashioned way - with paints, stencils, and thrifted corduroy jackets! The kids did a phenomenal job, but KS forgot to ask permission to share pics of their work, so here’s the one she’s working on.
Don’t you want to make one?? YOU TOTALLY SHOULD.
A Way to Help
KS’ colleague at Awakening in Las Vegas lost his daughter, Zan, to cancer eight years ago. Rick sent this message and KS thought it worth passing on…
For the past 8 years of asking for your donations, I have always believed that a miracle, a scientific miracle, was possible. For some cancers the miracle has arrived through the use of genetic engineering, CAR-T therapies and AI.
Now, however, the landscape has changed.
Government funding cuts for cancer research (I guess there are some people against cancer research), the “do your own research” scientific inquiry group and the resurgence of eradicated diseases due to a fear of proven vaccines, gives one pause.
All of this anti-research and anti-science belief makes our donations all that more important!
So please use the following link to donate what you can.
https://pages.lls.org/ltn/snv/LasVegas25/rgrayg
And join us (if you can) in Las Vegas on November 1 as “Zan’s Fans” walk for the eighth time to “Light The Night.”
Thanks so much for your generosity, and passion, for the cause.
For more low volume/high value reading on the current state of science and government, KS also recommends following Liz Neeley’s excellent Meeting the Moment newsletter as well as her Unbreaking project.
Last but Not Least… ?
If you’ve been here before, you know you get a little reward for reading all the way to the end. Sometimes, it comes in the form of a secret. So, here’s my secret:
YR SHARK AUNTIE IS HAVING A BABY!
She’s just a teeny tiny blob at this stage, but she’s already the bane of my (bodily) existence. Still, I couldn’t be more excited (As is everyone at Milkfed HQ, they’re truly the best).
xoxo,
Yr Shark Auntie, Denise
Very excited for the next issue of FML! I've been with the series since issue 1 and it caught me off guard how much I love the story (hope that's not some sort of backhanded compliment-it's not meant to be!). And also, congrats on the bean! Nothing will ever be the same.
