Milkfed Criminal Masterminds Newsletter
I blew it.
Sorry, .
Fraction sent me the text below for this newsletter on JULY 8TH, but I had quick business trip to LA to prepare for and I didn't manage to get the newsletter put together in time. So. What you're reading in Fraction's box below is five days old now and some of it's stale.
Mea culpa.
I'll try to get us back on schedule, but Tuesday is my birthday so next week's update might be a little late too. I'm telling myself this is actually for the best because nobody wants to get these things back to back.
I can be really clever with my guilt-driven rationalizations. It's one of my superpowers.
Love,
Kelly Sue
PS I threw my back out yesterday so I'm putting this together while on pain killers and muscle relaxers. Expect typos.
Winner of the fan photo is "Billy Browndinner," (totally his real name, I'm sure) whose winning photo is above. Thanks to all that entered.
Billy, we'll be in touch to get your address for a prize.

HAWKEYE 19 went off to press this week all drawn, inked, colored, and lettered by Messrs.' Aja, Hollingsworth, and Eliopoulos. It goes on sale July 30th. It's called "The Things What Don't Get Spoke" (oh how Marvel's poor and beleaguered proofreaders love it when you monkey with the Queen's) and follows the Barton Boys after we left them beat up, bloody, shot, and deafened in HAWKEYE... 17? The numbering STILL confuses me; sorry.
This has been shorthanded by me as "the sign language issue."
I worked intensely with Rachel Coleman, an ASL teacher, advocate, creator and host of "Signing Time" and "Baby Signing Time" and, lately, a big hit in our house, "Rachel and the Treeschoolers." It was Rachel's work that first introduced me to American Sign Language in a real way; it was watching her work, when Henry was wee, when it occurred to me that, hey -- ASL is just like comics -- a purely visual language. You could really DO something with that...
There's this thing that happens when you put work out into the world sometimes: you get to meet your heroes. And sometimes, if you're really lucky, you get to work with them a little bit. Rachel, her work, and her amazing family are much beloved here in Ft. DeFraction. I was so happy she agreed to help my tourist-ass out on this one.
Anyway. More on this as it gets close to coming out.
(Oh! Speaking of the above, fellow Cascadians and Portlandos: keep your eyes on the Powell's events later on into September. The Butt Stuff Werewolf and the Wolf in the White Van FOR ONE NIGHT ONLYYYY. SHH. )
HAWKEYE 20 shouldn't be too far behind. That's the last Annie issue, alas. Fittingly, it's called "The Longish Goodbye." All the threads of Kate's time in Los Angeles have formed a little noose that wants very badly to get around Kate-is-Enough's neck.
HAWKEYE 21 is in David's hands as we speak. I tried to call it "The F Word" but they didn't let me, even when I told them but the "F word" in this case is 'finale.' So it's called "Rio Bravo." The last page of this issue is the inverse opposite of the last page of 17(?). Anyway David is gonna CRUSH this one. I mean he crushes EVERY one but this one especially.
HAWKEYE 22 is called "El Dorado." It's gonna be longer than twenty pages. I shouldn't say how much longer until I get final confirmation. I'm dragging my feet a little on wrapping it up but... well, it'll be done this week. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, and then that's it for me. Hard to say goodbye I guess (funny; I drag my feet on all my last issues). Anyway there's a Marvel editorial summit some time next week and I want those guys to have it beforehand so... yeah, time's up.
If those ODY-C pages left this newsletter, nobody pointed it out to me. Thanks, y'all. As soon as HAWKEYE wraps I start tearing into ODY-C #1. The outline is fucking KILLER, y'all. (That's a joke. See, the outline is like 2600 years old. It's called THE ODYSSEY. Homer wrote it. See? Hilarious).
Chaykin's on SATELLITE SAM #10 now. The filthy finale of arc 2, which I tried to call SATELLITE SAM AND THE SNUFF-FUCK KINESCOPE but APPARENTLY that's "offensive to pretty much everyone alive." So blame the bookstores, not me.
Fábio, when he picks himself up off the floor after Brazil's astonishing World Cup defeat today(not so much that they were defeated but that they were defeated so goddamn badly), continues on with CASANOVA #2.
Chip's wrapping up SEX CRIMINALS #7 here in the next couple-few, so that looks like an August release as well. Then he's out here in Cascadia for SEXSUMMIT '14, when we will write our must-have Christmastime fuck-manual JUST THE TIPS. There's also gonna be a Portland signing. Shh!
Oh! The SEXUAL GARY shirts were all fucked up so we sent 'em back and they're getting redone. I don't know how shirts get fucked up but these did. They were like if SEXUAL GARY opened for FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD. So fucked up. Anyway, somehow, Team SEXCRIMS has managed to make even a shirt late.
So for now, get you a BRIMPER or BRIMPED shirt at www.brimper.com

BITCH PLANET needs a name for its letters column. Have your say, here. My favorite right now is BITCHES BE LIKE... but I dunno. Maybe you have a better idea.
CAPTAIN MARVEL 5 came out last week. Penultimate issue in the HIGHER FASTER FURTHER MORE storyline. CAPTAIN MARVEL 6 goes to the printer this week, I think. VERY pleased with how it's turned out -- David outdid himself. Heavy heroic action issue -- and if you're a fan of Ja Kyee Lrurt you're particularly going to love it.
PROMETHEUS FIRE AND STONE: OMEGA is coming along nicely. Got to see my first layouts from Agustin Alessio last week and they're perfect. Always extra cool to work with a painter.
PRETTY DEADLY VOLUME ONE is going back to print! Thank you for that. PRETTY DEADLY VOLUME TWO is in the works. Here's one of images that is inspiring us.
"It would be pretty cool to have a 'currently reading' or 'currently watching' for the both of you so that we'd see what kind of stories you're into while you're writing what you're writing!"
