Hiya, Criminals.
Things are kind of nuts hereabout.
Fraction and I are headed to LA in 10 hours for a movie and a bunch of meetings and I have yet to pack. Or leave the info for the babysitter or write the three bazillion things that need to be written for tomorrow or... so many other things. So... yeah. He's downstairs right now talking to Rachel Coleman on Skype. (Do you guys know Rachel's work? Parents, I'm looking at you: Rachel does really great stuff.) I need to get my part of this wrapped up, load the dishwasher and start figuring out what I'm going to wear over the next three days. (Those of you who were shopping with me on Tumblr -- Thanks! I went with the cobalt blue.)
So what's the news?
Reddit AMA (that means, "Ask Me Anything") went well--thank you. I don't think I was as thorough as I've been in the past because I was pressed for time, but there are hopefully a few things in there that you might find useful or interesting. If nothing else there's at least one soap box rant and the lyrics to Jumping Jack Flash. (There are a couple of good unanswered questions in there that I still might have to go back and hit. We'll see.)
I'm leaving GHOST! I've co-written the first three issues of the new series, and I did Issue 4 on my own as my goodbye (written almost in its entirety when I was holed up in a hotel room in Leeds, if I recall correctly). I've enjoyed my time on the book so very much and I hate to go, but I'm leaving it in more than capable hands with Chris Sebela and Jan Duursema. (I will miss Patrick and Everett most of all.) I know you're going to love what they've got planned for Elisa.
GHOST 2 is out tomorrow, actually.
Oh, hey -- you know what else is out tomorrow? The new CAPTAIN MARVEL! Here's a link to the USA Today piece. In preparation, Brett White at Marvel.com has been going through the old issues with me and producing a kind of "DVD extras" commentary--thoughts about what we did, why we did it and what didn't go as planned. The first one is here. The second is here. I presume the third will go live tomorrow.
Speaking of the Carol Corps [the Carol Corps is what fans of Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel call themselves] -- if you're coming to Emerald City Comic Con, please join us for the Carol Corps Celebration at the Museum of Flight the evening before! You don't have to consider yourself a Carol Corps member -- hell, you don't even have to have read the book -- it's just a party where we're going to hang out with some of the best fans in comics and look at airplanes together. And have cocktails. (Well, *I* am not going to have cocktails, but you may. Pretty sure Sebela is planning on many cocktails.) There'll be door prizes and G. Willow Wilson will be there and Chris Sebela and Fraction and MY MOM and best of all, any money we raise will go to the Girls Leadership Institute. And that means a lot to me. PLUS DID I MENTION THE FUN??
You don't need tickets for ECCC to go to the Carol Corps celebration, actually. So if you missed your opportunity to get tickets to Emerald City Comic Con, we can still hang out! And if there's anything you want signed, go ahead and bring it. I'll make sure I've got a sharpie in my clutch.
Dang it. The new scanner I ordered 3 weeks ago is going to be delivered after we leave for the airport tomorrow. Of course.
I was on the This Week In Ladies podcast -- they were delightful and prepared and I had a wonderful time.
PRETTY DEADLY 5? Going to press this week. I KNOW, RIGHT?
What else? Loved your suggestions for the newsletter! Hilariously, the most-requested feature was an advice column from the kids. So... we'll have to do that. Send your questions to masterminds@milkfed.us -- and remember the kids are 3 and 6 so don't be a jerk. We'll pick one or two to have them answer on YouTube or Vimeo or something.
Speaking of videos, Fraction did a thing. (And while we're at it, have you seen Batman Dreams of Hieronymus Machines? It remains one of my Favorite Things.)
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but this bag ain't gonna pack itself.

THE WEEK IN THINGS
• HAWKEYE 17 hits this week and it’s a little something special. Ever since we got the #hawkguy ball rolling David and I fantasized about getting our letterer, Mr. Chris Eliopoulos, to contribute some of his amazing art (http://www.desperatetimes.com) to the book. Then as we were besieged with holiday specials this past December, I figured it out. What if that cartoon Simone’s kids wanted to watch so badly way back in HAWKEYE #6 was in fact a perfect distillation of our book, its themes, and the characters therein, but also a weird holiday cartoon? And since Chris has such a wonderfully cartoony style, what if HE drew it? Anyway. David does two pages, Chris does eighteen, and you can read it to your kids.
• You think HAWKEYE 15 was bad? Trust me, after you read HAWKEYE 18 -- you'll wish we had more cartoon llamas and dogs dressed up as tarantulas fighting human suns. Gather ye rosebuds etc etc.
• Chris has also endeavored, with the wonderful Brad Meltzer, to create a series of children’s books. The first two, I AM AMELIA EARHART and I AM ABRAHAM LINCOLN are very popular in our house. Check ‘em out.
• Also the concluding collections to my far too brief time in the F4/FF universe are on release this week. FANTASTIC FOUR: DOOMED and FF: FAMILY FREAKOUT wrap up the stories I wrote, co-wrote, or simply had some DNA in, alongside Lee Allred, Chris Sebela, Karl Kesel, Mike and Laura Allred, Mark Bagley, and Raffaele Ienco.
• The proper reading order is
FANTASTIC FOUR: NEW DEPARTURES, NEW ARRIVALS
FANTASTIC FOUR: ROAD TRIP
FF: FANTASTIC FAUX
FANTASTIC FOUR: DOOMED
FF: FAMILY FREAKOUT
[I'm including Amazon links because it's nice if you can click through and read descriptions, but we always encourage you to buy your comics from your local comic shop. Don't have a local shop? Use this handy link to find one. -- kelly sue ]
